Autodesk Maya 8.5 has just been released, if you're at all interested in the CGI world. So for the price of a small house, or nice car you might be able to go and buy the full version of this awesome software package.
However I reccomend you download the learning edition first to see if 3D is your thing! Head on over to www.autodesk.com/maya
Otherwise i HIGHLY reccomend you check out blender. It is an open source animation suite. And just because it's free don't think it's trash. It's amazing , and is updated with new features so fast that if you blink you might miss them! Check it out at www.blender.org
